Our Interview with Hilary Laney, President of Tri-Digital

Tri-Digital Has Been Leading The Event Capture Industry For More Than 20 Years

Tri-Digital’s event capture services and technology extend the life and value of your meetings. Our goal is to transform live experiences into digital ones, letting you connect employees and communities across time zones and geography.

BusinessInterviews.com:  Do you have any recent success stories that you’d like to share with our readers?

Hilary Laney:  My company just won Washington’s Best 100 Companies to Work For in 2015! This is a huge accomplishment for my team because we have worked really hard over the years to create a work environment people want to be a part of. We have implemented benefits such as unlimited paid time off for all team members, monthly dedicated funds for department outings, a wide array of endless beverages stocked in our kitchen, fully paid-for healthcare plans, membership to our local gym, and allocated budgets for training individuals in the skills needed to reach their goals. My Leadership team dedicates a lot of time and energy to make this possible while also maintaining growth of the business. It has all been worth it because as a result, we attract some of the most hard-working, passionate, talented, loyal, and fun people our city has to offer – even with the option to work for our neighbors, such as Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, and Tableau, they choose Tri-Digital!

BusinessInterviews.com:  What issue does your core product help solve and how so?

Hilary Laney:  When our clients have a message they need delivered to their targeted audience in the most effective and efficient way possible, they typically host an event. These events are located all around the world, in different venues, and the need to accommodate anywhere from 50 to 30,000 attendees at once. Although the in-person experience can be the most effective, it is not always the most efficient due to space and budget limitations. This is where Tri-Digital comes in. We focus on capturing the experience created at the event and extending it to a virtual audience. We accomplish this by providing our end-to-end Content Capture, Webcasting/Streaming Video, and Video Library Platform solutions. This experience allows our clients to achieve the widest reach possible in the most effective and efficient way.

BusinessInterviews.com:  What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner and how have you met that challenge?

Hilary Laney:  Mark Monrean, my dad, is one of the original founders and current owner of the company. He has trusted me with the responsibility of driving it forward, an honor I can never find words to express my appreciation for. I was brought on as an Administrative Assistant in 2004 and have since worked my way into the role as President of the organization. I have been in the driver’s seat for about four years now and am faced with challenges every day. The biggest challenge has been managing the transition from a family-centric small business to a professionally focused global business without losing the integrity of our core values and enthusiastic culture. This is a challenge I believe all small business leaders are faced with at one point or another if they are determined to grow, and the ones who succeed at this are the ones who are truly built to last. I feel we are succeeding, in large part, thanks to the lessons my dad has taught me and that I work hard to instill in my team. Stay true to your team and the business, never try to act as something you are not, always be willing to admit when you are wrong, and build authentic relationships.

BusinessInterviews.com:  What’s the most exciting thing on the horizon for you/your Company?

Hilary Laney:  Although we are a service-based company, the time has arrived to provide our clients with two proprietary products set to launch later this year and in early 2016. We have been building up to the development and release of these products over the past several years, so it is a goal our entire team is very proud to be reaching. I cannot yet release information about these products, but I can tell you our hope is to evolve the way corporate event content is consumed!

BusinessInterviews.com:  Where do you envision your company in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?

Hilary Laney:  I envision Tri-Digital as being the global provider for online delivery and access to all corporate event content in the next 20 years. Between now and 2035, I predict our industry will transform itself at least five more times, as it has over the past decade. This of course means we too will reinvent our services and products to stay relevant and competitive in this space – something we are accustomed to and very successful at doing!

BusinessInterviews.com:  Have you had any mentors or role models that have influenced you? Describe the impact.

Hilary Laney:  Since completing my college degree in Sociology, I have always examined how the people around me operate professionally and personally, while paying special attention to those who have succeeded greatly and failed miserably. From this, I am always identifying qualities to embrace as my own and others to avoid. I have been extremely fortunate to be surrounded by very successful and highly respectable people, all of whom have contributed to my growth as an individual and a leader. They have been willing to educate me, share their stories, and guide me in my decisions over the years. The three who stand out the most for me are my two fathers and my grandfather on my mom’s side. All entrepreneurs, all loyal men, all successful, and all people who empower me to accomplish whatever I put my mind to.

BusinessInterviews.com:  Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?

Hilary Laney:  I absolutely consider myself to be successful. I measure this by the thought of everything being taken away from me in the blink of an eye, and still being left with a feeling of accomplishment. This does not mean I am done and ready to turn in my hat – I am still very motivated to be bigger and better than I am today. Being raised by an entrepreneurial family, it is ingrained in me to continue to innovate, reinvent myself and my business, stay on top, and always continue to grow. In addition to my instinctive drive, my husband, ten year old son, and baby girl on the way, all contribute to this motivation. I want to provide the same example for my family that previous generations set for me, in the hope it will one day influence their success in accomplishing their own goals.
