At least one email marketing message from some small/home based business almost every week has an email id that ends with @gmail.com or other popular email services. This seems to be the case for those of us who are not familiar with some of the existing solutions, which are sometimes free of cost.
Most IT solutions are efficient when using the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle. Here is a good first step for most small businesses who do not have an email with their domain name.
The IT services we need on a daily basis are email, calender and documents. Google has a solution called the Google Apps for Business which allows you to register an email id with your domain suffix instead of the gmail domain suffix. This service comes with everything that a regular gmail account has, like calender, documents etc. Now comes the question of cost, Google has a basic version which is free for upto 50 user accounts.
Google also has a Market Place which gives access to 100s of other IT services provided by third party vendors that businesses can benefit from. Most of these services are seamlessly integrated with the Google Apps for Business service making it a very practical solution. These additional solutions range from CRM, Accounting, Project and Human Resource management solutions.
Feel free to explore the solution discussed above in this link or post your questions as a comment and I will do my best to answer those.
Disclaimer: I am currently not in anyways affiliated with Google, but have used these services extensively.
