“This innovative way to combat the unemployment rate of military spouses and veteran is going to change the job seeking process for us.”

The MilSpouse Minute mission is to create a platform for military spouses and veterans to share who they are and what they are about with others and employers. The forum will give military spouses and veterans that voice that they desperately need by utilizing YouTube videos. Their goal is to be a video blog platform for military spouses and veterans for self-promotion that will lead to jobs as well as opportunities.

MO: What inspired you to launch your business?

Amber: Prior to this assignment, my husband was actually a veteran himself. We had many struggles with him finding employment as well. We made the decision to go back active duty because of this. Then, the roles were flipped with me having to find employment when we PCS’d. I had a great career making a pretty good living and contribution to my family financially. I had to leave that behind to follow my military husband. This really hurt us financially and me personally. I struggled with depression and low self-esteem. These struggles led me to create Veterans’ Voice Online and Milspouse Minute. These video blog platforms will be the voice and visibility we need to show employers what we are made of. That was a major frustration for me, as a military spouse, is that I felt like I was not being heard and essentially invisible. I didn’t get a chance to land an interview to tell employers what I was about even though I was qualified. Resume after resume was sent out and most with no response. This blog platform is to build confidence in our veterans and military spouses because after rejection letter after rejection letter….you self-confidence can be shattered. I know it did for me. I didn’t let this hold me back, instead the entrepreneur in me led me to Milspouse Minute LLC.

MO: What issue does your core product help solve and how so?

Amber: This innovative way to combat the unemployment rate of military spouses and veteran is going to change the job seeking process for us. We are a video blog platform for military spouses and veterans that gives us our voice and empowers us when it comes to seeking employment. Milspouse Minute will operate in a way that military spouses are allowed a minute and 30 secs to tell employers why they should be hired, what are their skills and abilities, etc. using a YouTube video. The idea is to promote yourself in a Milspouse Minute and with your Veterans’ Voice. Employers will be able to contact the individual for a “second interview” if they like what they saw and heard. I feel this innovative way for employers to recruit and job seekers to get hired will be what this market needs.

MO: Where do you envision your company in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?

Amber: I envision all veterans and military spouse utilizing the platform. I believe it is a great way to get noticed by employers and recruiters. I also empowers them and builds confidence in the job seeking process.

MO: Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?

Amber: I think so. I took the scary leap to pursue something I believe in. That is a great accomplishment in itself. Not many people take the risk. I didn’t want to think “what if”.

MO: What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs and business owners? What do you wish someone told you?

Amber: Get all your ducks in a row. The business side is the hardest because I don’t know anything about it. Get someone who is an expert to walk you through it.

MO: Why did you think a blogging platform would be beneficial to other military spouses and veterans?

Amber: I have done blogging for awhile and felt so empowered to be able to share with others a little bit about myself. So that was the thought behind creating this platform. I wanted to give others a voice and empowerment that comes with it.
