Get Off Your Attitude

MO: Can you talk about how your own experiences with adversity influenced your passion to inspire and motivate others?

Ryan: My experiences in life have helped me so much when it comes to my attitude and my perspective in life. When I was in high school I was is in a shooting accident. I was shot with a 12 gauge shot gun. I still have a bullet lodged in my shoulder. That experience taught me on how to be a survivor and not a victim in life. It taught me to respond to life in a positive manner. I also went through another tragedy a few years ago when I lost my business. I was partner and vp of sales for a National Insurance company. My business partner and I had to close shop due to some things that were out of our control. I had to learn to get the right attitude and pick myself up. That is actually the same time I came up with the phrase “ Get off Your Attitude.” Those incidents both inspired me to write my book and get back in to the speaking and coaching business.

MO: How did you discover that you had a talent for professional speaking?

Ryan: I discovered my talent when I was picked up by Brian Tracy programs. I worked for them as a sales trainer and speaker. I was offered a position with them to travel and work with companies. I enjoyed it so much that I have kept with it for almost 10 years. I truly love to speak and help others. That is my passion.

MO: What are some first steps for people to start creating a life that they have always envisioned or hoped for but not yet attained?

Ryan: You must have a plan. What I mean by that is you must know where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow. My definition of a visionary is someone who has a foot in the future and a foot in the present at the same time. It is someone that understands that they must work hard that day on their plan so that their vision of the life they have imagined will come true.

MO: What motivates and inspires you?

Ryan: What motivates and inspires me is seeing someone going after their dreams, having no fear and doing everything it takes to make it a success. I love to watch biographies and read articles about people who have reached success and what they had to do attain it. I love seeing someone beat all the odds in life. That is what truly “Get off Your Attitude” means. Getting out of your own way, not listening to others, taking responsibility and making it happen in life. People that have a winning attitude motivate me to be a better person.

MO: What are some strategies and techniques for staying positive when you feel disillusioned and depressed?

Ryan: One of my favorite strategies when I am having a down day is I smile. I think about all the things that are in my life that make me happy. I think about my family, friends and some great things that happened in my life. The other strategy is having that attitude of gratitude. I actually will sit down when I am feeling down and write down all the things that I am grateful for. I think these are the best ways to remind our selves where we are and that we can get even better in life if we just stay positive.

MO: Can you talk about your new book entitled, “Get off Your Attitude in sales” and the writing process behind it?

My book is not entitled “ Get off Your Attitude in Sales” I am currently working on that one

Ryan: My new book that was just released this year. Get off Your Attitude, is all about life. I explain how Your attitude is the most important thing in your life. It affects everything: how you handle the situations around you, how others perceive you, whether you give up or keep fighting, whether you succeed or you fail… it all comes down to attitude.

I also challenge people in the book to stop making excuses for why success eludes you. I explain how and why having the right attitude: a positive one, can change the outcome of situations and lead to success. I also show how Attitude crosses into both personal and professional lives, and how a negative attitude can cause fear, stress and anxiety.

The writing process was tough but rewarding. Since it was my first book I had to discipline myself and work hard every day on it. I also had a great editor and publisher to work with that helped me tremendously. I am very blessed to have this book and I hope it helps everyone realize that they too can go after their dreams in life as long as they decide to “Get off Their Attitude”
