MO: I really like that you mentioned you have been able to break through the clutter of all of the “too good to be true” weight loss companies. Can you tell us what makes you different than all of these other companies?

Adam: I really believe that in this day and age, we all know what to do, for the most part. I mean, we all know that eating McDonald’s and cookies and ice cream all day isn’t good for us. We know what foods to avoid. A lack of knowledge isn’t the real problem America faces when it comes to obesity.

Did you know that 10% of all bestselling books are diet books?!

If anything there’s too much information out there, and that’s causing people to feel confused. And what do we do when we’re confused? Nothing!

The REAL problem is a lack of consistent action. Doing the right things day in and day out. THAT is the hard part!

We’re amazing at starting all kinds of diets. But we’re not very good at sticking with them. There are a few reasons for that.

We focus on helping our clients ACTUALLY stick with it.

Results come from doing the right things over and over again. In other words: being consistent. And because we’re focused obsessively on helping our clients stay consistent, we’re able to get amazing results for our clients of all ages, sizes and shapes. And because of that, we’re featured in the national media often.

MO: Can you talk me through the user experience for a user on MyBodyTutor.com? What can I expect when I get to the site?

Adam: I’m assuming you’re talking about the back-end application that clients use? Well, here’s what it’s not. It’s not a social network where you “meet” others looking to lose weight. It’s not a peer-accountability site either.

What people want (and need!) is a one-on-one relationship with an expert who is there for them from start to finish, every single day. Someone who has a vested interest in your success. Someone who will not rest until WE (we’re in this together with our clients) do hit OUR goal.

People don’t want peer-accountability from their friends or family. Besides, when was the last time you were brutally honest with your friends or family? It’s not easy! Plus, it’s hard to take them seriously.

The MBT application is a beautifully designed and very easy to use system. In fact, it’s so easy to use my mom who is not computer savvy whatsoever can use it! That’s actually how we tested it. We wanted to make it as easy-to-use and as intuitive as possible.

Clients log in every night, tell use what they ate, what they did for exercise along with a few other powerful questions.

And then every single morning, they’re getting expert feedback from their very own Body Tutor with critique, suggestions and encouragement to make sure they’re staying on track and being consistent. And if they’re not – we help our clients understand why, so they can recover right away.

MO: What in your background prepared you for running this business?

Adam: You’d think it’d be because I have been OBSESSED with nutrition and exercise since I was literally in 4th grade (see my website for pictures!) and have been personal training for years now. But it’s not.

What prepared me most was that I caddied for 6+ summers starting when I was in high school. I caddied at a country club. Because I wasn’t a professional caddy or my parents weren’t members I had to really prove myself.

What I learned in those 6 years in terms of how to deal with people – all types of people! – has made a huge difference in my life.

Golf is a mental game. What separates pros from amateurs is there ability to deal with pressure and mostly their ability to recover from mistakes.

Is one bad shot going to ruin the rest of your round?

A good caddy can make all of the difference. A good caddy is a coach. And I learned how to coach very well from caddying.

I wanted to end caddying on a high note, and my last season of caddying I was requested by 5 different members to caddy for them during the Club Championship.

The best part? I’m a terrible golfer. But because I was able to get through to them, it didn’t matter.

Also, I LOVE service. Many entrepreneurs want to create product businesses because they don’t want to deal with people. They just want to ship something and be done with them. That’s fine.

For me, I actually love service. It makes me very happy to make other people happy so it’s a good fit.

MO: Can you share one of your favorite success stories with us?

Adam: Oh, there are so many cool ones. I think my favorite success story is a client named Judy. 20 + years ago she lost 100+ pounds from a diet she was on.

She wrote a book about it, and it wound up becoming a NY Times bestseller. She was the “it” diet girl back then for a little while.

She was on Oprah, Phil Donahue (back when he had a show), you name it.

Sadly, and unfortunately, like most people who do crazy diets to lose weight, she gained it all back and then some. She had tried every diet out there since then and nothing had worked for her…

Judy came across my company about a year and half ago.

Long story short, she credits my company with being the only one that’s been able to help her lose the weight…and keep it off. She told me I completely changed the way she thinks about food and has never been this happy or peaceful in her entire life!

I’ve never met Judy (I don’t ever meet my clients unless they’re in town visiting) but we talk on the phone often because she has become somewhat of an adviser to me because she really believes in what I do, and what I offer. She’s amazed at how I was able to help her (and subsequently so many of her friends too!) without ever having been overweight myself.

She knows a lot of people in the industry and tells me I’m the best at what I do. And coming from HER – it means the world. Once she told me that, I knew I was really doing what I was meant to be doing.

Ugh so many more come to mind!

MO: Why do you believe people NEED a service like MyBodyTutor.com?

Consistency is not easy. It’s too easy to make excuses and even easier to rationalize those excuses.

If you DON’T have the body you want, it’s because you’re not staying consistent with your diet and/or exercise. 95% of people are NOT consistent with their diet and/or exercise.

And without a system of support, accountability and a way to track and monitor your progress along with a proven program to follow it’s very hard to stick with it.

There’s where we come in.

The only way to get the results you want and deserve is to stay consistent and that’s what we help our clients do.

MO: What are you looking forward to in the future of MyBodyTutor.com?

Adam: Helping lots more people. That is WHY I do what I do. That is my number one priority. Ya know, it sounds corny but I want to change the world in my own little way. And I really believe that when people look and feel their best, they’re way more likely to make really cool things happen.

And because I know my program works, I truly feel a responsibility to help as many people as I can. I love it (but also hate it at the same time) when someone comes across my company for the first time and says, “MBT is such a great idea! I wish I had known about it sooner, I’ve been looking for something like this for such a long time!”

It reminds me that we’re not where we need to be yet. Not even close. But client by client we’re getting there.
