Boosted Vapor is a provider of e-cigarettes and e-liquids. The company was created by a group of smokers looking to quit tobacco without giving up the joys of smoking. Other electronic cigarette companies dilute the nicotine and flavor in their products. Boosted Vapor’s products boost the nicotine and boost the flavor – thus, Boosted Vapor.

MO: How did you come up with the idea behind Boosted Vapor?

Jeff: Boosted Vapor was created to help smokers, like myself, quit tobacco. I had been smoking cigars for year, and several members of my wife’s family, including my wife, were cigarette smokers. We all had two things in common: we wanted to quit and we didn’t know how. So I turned the solution to our problem into a business. Boosted Vapor is my means of living – both financially and healthfully.

MO: Can you talk about the process from first having the initial concept to taking it to market and any challenges that you faced along the way?

Jeff: We set out to create Boosted Vapor, because we were disappointed with the current selection of ecigarettes on the market. Very few had high enough nicotine levels to satisfy us away from tobacco, and flavor options were limited. We wanted Boosted Vapor to offer the freshest possible e-liquid – all of our diluents are kosher, 99% pure, and made in the United States (except for a dozen of our imported, more exotic flavors). We currently offer 110 flavors, which hope to keep smokers satisfied and away from the smell, ash, residue, tar, and carcinogens of typical cigarettes.

We have faced several challenges concerning the litigation and FDA constraint on e-liquids, such as tax reforms and Oklahoma’s leading the way establishing an 18-year-old age minimum for purchasing cigarettes.

MO: What’s one marketing strategy that’s worked well for you so far?

Jeff: We’ve found that honest word-of-mouth marketing has been the most effective way of getting our brand out in the world. Boosted Vapor seeks to provide the most honest e-liquid, and we do that with honest business practices. Ebay has also helped us find a wider audience without having to resort to sneaky marketing practices. For everything else, we work with an LA-based internet marketing agency that has helped us generate traffic and leads.

MO: Can you talk about your plans to setting up a subscription-system for your more regular customers?

Jeff: This is still very much in the development phase, but we hope a subscription-system will help our customers stick with e-cigarettes (rather than resort back to traditional cigarettes, because it’s easier) and turn guest customers into repeat customers.

MO: If you had to start again is there anything that you’d do differently?

Jeff: If I had to start over, I would have paid closer attention to initial branding. I think Boosted Vapor is still trying to find its image and its voice, which are things I could have taken care of before launching the business. The e-cigarette and e-liquid industry is making an effort to attract younger crowds with more stylish products. As we have always been primarily concerned with the actual product over its marketing, I feel this may be a weakness for our sales.
