Can you walk us through the user experience for TicketKick?

Greg:
Once determining that the TicketKick service is right for their needs, our customers either sign up online or call one of our friendly phone specialists.  We get all of the details from the case, and collect payment.  Our defense team prepares all of the paperwork and sends it to the customer via email or postal mail.  Customer are instructed to read the easy instructions, sign the documents, and mail them to the courthouse.  3-12 weeks later, the court issues a verdict through the mail.  Nearly 70% of our customers receive a ‘dismissed’ or ‘not guilty’ verdict.

How did you initially get the inspiration for TicketKick?

Greg:
It all started in 2008 when I received 3 tickets in 3 weeks. As a “starving” college student, I though, “What in the world am I going to do with 3 tickets?!” I found a legal process to contest the tickets without ever going to court…and had 2 of the tickets dropped. I told some friends who told some of their friends and it spread like wildfire. Before I knew it, I had enough customers to start a business. Best of all, because of the economic climate, I couldn’t have found a more opportune time to start a business that saves people money.

You talked about feeling like you really had a business when you saw two of your employees figuring out a problem without involving you. Tell us about the process of hiring employees and giving up a little control and how it has helped the business.

Greg:
Hiring the right people in a company is one of the most important attributors to success.  As Jim Collins states in his book, Good To Great, you have to get the right people on the bus, metaphorically speaking.  The bus can change directions, and people can change seats, but as long as it’s full of people that are right for that bus, it’s going to go far.

You mention working on a big SEO and PR campaign to increase website traffic. Can you tell our readers why it is so important for you to optimize your website for search engines through SEO?

Greg:
Organic search results are the name of the game in the online arena.  Sure, other methods can get you leads very quickly, but you pay for it.  There are often months when we spend $12,000 + in online advertising Pay Per Click models.  With SEO, we forecast spending 1/5th that, and getting double the results.  Building your SEO is like buying a home.  It is a big expense at first, but over time it’s a wise investment that pays off.

Why don’t most drivers do a trial by written declaration?

Greg:
They don’t know about it!  Out of the thousands of drivers that we talk to every month, only a handful actually know about this process.  It’s by no means a secret (it’s on the back of every ticket issued), but the courts don’t tell everyone about.  The judge doesn’t ask a defendant, “Would you like to fight it in court or through the mail?”  He assumes you want a in-court trial and asks, “What date do you want to fight your ticket in court?”

There’s a video on your website with tips on how to get out of a speeding ticket. What advice can you give our readers on this topic?

Greg:
First of all, we don’t condone speeding.  With that said, hey, we all get tickets from time to time.  The number one thing we see done wrong when drivers are pulled over is to act up with the officer.  The officer is a human, too, and mouthing off to him or her isn’t going to get you anywhere, except maybe jail.  Adhere the the officer’s requests, and don’t stand out.  Stay in the car, and make the officer feel comfortable by keeping your hands on the wheel and speaking calmly.  Lastly, don’t admit guilt.  The officer is trained to ask you why you were pulled over, which sets you up to admit you broke the law.  You shouldn’t lie, but you also shouldn’t divulge anymore than you need to.  Remember, 75 in a 65 is still illegal…so don’t say you were going 75!
