MO: Ilya, you are the founding partner of Ciplex, can you tell us about the creation of this company?

Ilya: I started the company when I was 17 years old. I was always known to be the neighborhood computer nerd, fixing computers, setting up networks, and so forth. One day I noticed that more and more people started asking me if I knew anyone that makes websites. At that point it became clear where the Internet was going. I knew that we would be entering a generation where websites wouldn’t be just for big business, everyone would have one.

MO: Why did you decide to step down as CEO of Ciplex and use your skills as the CMO instead?

Ilya: Marketing has always been my MO. I love to consult and help businesses come up with solutions that have a real, measurable impact. When the company grew to near 20 people, my attention was pulled into other directions. I had to deal with operations, hiring, process, and managing. I barely had any time to focus on the growth of the company and most importantly, helping out clients. I realized that dealing with a fast-growing company and everything that came along with it, required experience that I didn’t have. I brought in an executive who had experience running a digital department at a major corporation, with a staff of over 50. I knew that he would be able to quickly take the reins, and allow me to focus on my strengths. I knew that this decision was the right one, for both myself, and the growth of my company.

MO: What distinguishes Ciplex from other digital marketing companies?

Ilya: We’re in a very interesting space. Everyone knows someone that designs websites. It’s a flooded industry and the problem is there are so many bad companies out there that simply do poor work. In fact, most companies don’t really get what building websites is all about. They focus on making things look pretty, but don’t realize that websites for business are marketing tools. Whenever we deal with a new client at Ciplex, we first determine what their objectives are. How are they going to get a return on their investment? What are the measurements for success? Is it to get more leads or increase sales? Is it to lower overhead or increase brand-awareness? There is always at least one goal, and it’s never to simply get a ‘pretty website’. This is how we stand apart from other companies. We sifted through the weeds to find the best talent in the industry that is able to work with our clients to create result-focused solutions. Startups, small and medium sized businesses, and even some of the world’s largest companies, have selected Ciplex because we are able to get them a real solution to their problems, without all the fancy (and expensive) bells and whistles of an ad agency, and with 100% focus on measurable results.

MO: I like that you mention that you work on creating result-driven online marketing campaigns. Can you expand on this and tell our readers what strategies you use to make your campaigns results driven?

Ilya: The greatest website in the world is worthless if no one comes to it. Attracting visitors to your website that have a strong potential of converting into a customer, is key to a successful site. We have found that online marketing has the highest return on investment of most marketing and advertising campaigns out there. In fact, it is the bread and butter of our own success. We use strategies such as SEO and SEM to attract visitors to our website and to our clients’ sites. These aren’t just any kind of visitors. Our campaigns are researched, focused, and targeted to bring visitors that have the highest potential to convert. We analyze metrics and study visitors and their browsing behaviors and adjust the site and campaign to get the highest conversion rates possible. Our online marketing campaigns are known to have a very fast and high return on investment, allowing us to have one of the highest client retention rates in the industry.

MO: You have worked with some impressive brands. Who would be your ideal client and why?

Ilya: Big brand aren’t always the best clients. In fact, we typically prefer to work with startups and small businesses over big, flashy brands. Why? It’s simple. We love to make a difference. We know that we can make a much bigger impact to a small business than a big company. When working with smaller businesses, we get to work with the core team of those businesses. They have a lot of passion for their brands and are very result-focused.

MO: Your website states that you are all very nice people. I love this. Tell us about what you look for in an employee for Ciplex?

Ilya: Passion. We look for people that are not only the smartest, and most creative, but also have the most passion for what they do. We realized that passionate people have a strong willingness to learn and improve their skills, and with a common trend in our industry of doing things ‘wrong’ we make sure that the people that join our companies are in a constant strive to be better.
