MO: What inspired you to launch your business?
Jack: We saw the need for creative workspaces in the market that would fit NYC’s modern vibe and younger, sophisticated, savvy workforce. Like us, these independent consultants, lawyers, accountants and entrepreneurs wanted a different kind of space. Existing office inventory in Manhattan has long been known for drab, boring workplaces. We saw the demand for a modern workplace and drove it home by launching Jay Suites.
MO: Do you have any recent success stories that you’d like to share with our readers?
Jack: After Sandy hit NYC, many businesses throughout the city needed to be relocated as parts of the city were in the dark for weeks and some for even months. We accepted many of these clients at our centers, and even got the Daily News to call Jay Suites their new home for a few months. Further, many financial, law, and media companies from downtown located throughout our centers. Not only did these companies take space by us, they grew with us and many chose to stay even after their original premises recovered.
MO: What issue does your core product help solve and how so?
Jack: The idea of office overhead. Every small business has to contemplate the costs of finding an office space. It’s a large expense that many startups or otherwise small companies just can’t afford. On the flip side, not having an office in a central location can destroy their business. Our office space rentals allows them to level the playing field. They don’t need to commit for 10 years and reach into the tens of thousands of dollars required to build out an office and infrastructure, furnish it with furniture or equipment, and hire a support staff. If they want even less commitment or are really bootstrapped, they can skip the physical space altogether and opt for a virtual space – they basically just buy a Manhattan address and phone number, but nobody knows that they are based elsewhere.
MO: What’s the most exciting thing on the horizon for you/your Company?
Jack: Jay Suites just leased the third floor of 1441 Broadway, which will accompany the fifth floor already operated for over a year; this expansion effectively doubles Jay Suites’ space in the building, making the company the largest executive suites operator in the Times Square neighborhood. Currently in the works are two new centers: one on 34th Street – across the street from the Empire State Building – and another in the Chelsea neighborhood, in the heart of Manhattan’s Fashion District.
MO: Where is the best place to start a business?
Jack: New York City. It’s a plethora of things – but nothing beats the diversity, ideas, and people this city offers.
