“The goal of Soho Strength Lab has been to provide one place where people can come to get their health and nutrition on track, keep it there for the long term, or help you reach the next level.”

Albert Matheny has always enjoyed learning about the human body and its capabilities under different conditions: training, nutrition, recovery from injury, and other variables. His goal is to help others connect with their bodies so that they can build their strength and confidence to pursue life to the fullest.

Albert has founded two companies.

Source Organic Whey is the only Non-GMO Project Verified whey protein, and comes exclusively from grass-fed cows on Northern California family farms.

SoHo Strength Lab specializes in the highest quality personal training and group fitness instruction. They combine traditional strength training techniques with innovative athletic movement and metabolic conditioning.

BusinessInterviews.com: What are some ways that you separate yourself from the competition?

Albert: Being a former athlete, having a nutrition background, and a physiology degree allows me to help my clients on a number of fronts while most trainers are only able to assist in one or two areas. The goal of Soho Strength Lab has been to provide one place where people can come to get their health and nutrition on track, keep it there for the long term, or help you reach the next level. We have a number of specialists that are able to assist with our client’s mobility, nagging injuries, and other concerns. Along with massage therapy, Soho Strength Lab provides the type of environment that promotes progress.

BusinessInterviews.com: What inspired you to launch Source, a company that distributes organic whey protein sourced exclusively from family farms in Northern California?

Albert: When I was training as a triathlete after college, I was constantly busy with working out for the three triathlon disciplines, the same way many people have to balance their work, home, and personal lives. Since I was always on the go, I was looking for a convenient, clean source of protein that didn’t have all the added sweeteners and flavors of the products that were on the market. So I started researching organic whey protein sources and was able to create some great partnerships that led me to start Source Organic Whey. We’re currently in over 200 stores, and growing, and sell online through our website and Amazon.com. Our goal is to provide products that are very transparent regarding their ingredients. We don’t want to add potentially harmful ingredients just to help our bottom line. We want to sell products that help and inform our customers.

BusinessInterviews.com: What’s one marketing strategy that’s worked really well for you?

Albert: We’ve found that social media has been the biggest boost for my businesses. When you’re able to have very influential people speak highly of your products and services unprompted, it makes a lot of potential customers take a first or second look. Another way has been the use of the various gym pass websites on the market. Using Classtivity, for example, has brought us a very large number of potential customers that may have not tried out Soho Strength Lab otherwise.
