BusinessInterviews.com: Why are you so passionate about helping businesses “get real” when it comes to marketing online?
Chris: My passion is a direct result of me being so tired of amazing products and services falling by the wayside due to unfocused online marketing efforts. While online marketing is not the “golden egg” when it comes to financial success, it is an extremely cost-effective oil that makes the marketing wheel chug along a whole lot faster. This passion is the whole reason that I developed my online marketing agency (The Go! Agency): in order to help businesses make sense of the online marketplace and get the success they deserve.
BusinessInterviews.com: What key insights have you gained by living and working in 4 different countries?
Chris: Definitely the two most important insights I gained were on how people communication with one another and also how each person processes information differently. When you are working and living abroad, you come across many different nuances, attitudes and styles that you wouldn’t normally come across in your homeland. This wealth of experience has enabled me to understand how to communicate on behalf of our clients to many different audiences in many different markets around the globe. Having international experience has been invaluable to me.
BusinessInterviews.com: You’ve been in business since 2008, yet your growth doubled over the last 2 years. What did you start doing differently to start seeing such impressive results?
Chris: To be honest, it was down to a simple combination: word of mouth and aggressive online marketing. I am a firm believer that when you do exceptional work for your clients, and if your client understands this and values it – you should get ready to grow. So as we amassed more and more clients, more and more spread the word to their professional connections and referred business our way. Then we supplemented even more clients outside of our network through email, SEO, social media, blogging and public relations. How we continue to experience growth is from constant refinement and organic changes to our overall marketing strategy. Honestly, I pull out our marketing plan on almost a daily basis to make edits and changes. This helps us stay competitive and opens us up for growth.
BusinessInterviews.com: What advice would you give to a company contemplating launching their first Facebook marketing campaign?
Chris: The best advice can come from within. Just ask yourself some questions, as your answers will help guide you through the process. First: why do you want to launch a Facebook campaign? Now answer this question: what do you want to achieve through Facebook? And now finally: how will you track this activity? Coming up with these three answers will help you get focused when it comes to launching your Facebook campaign.
BusinessInterviews.com: What are some of the most common mistakes you see businesses make when it comes to their social media marketing strategy and how can they be avoided?
Chris: Two in particular that jump out are the lack of strategy and in cohesive branding. First, when it comes to a social media marketing strategy the first place you should look is your current marketing plan/strategy. This is where you should start when it comes to planning your social media attack. In your strategy you should know: how much time you have to dedicate to this and who will be doing the work. These are super important points. Secondly, when it comes to branding – make sure that all of your social media hubs have the same look and feel of your online point-of-sale (your website). Make sure that all of your logos and pictures are high-resolution and that you are using the same message and branding across all platforms.
BusinessInterviews.com: As a fundamental supporter of online marketing education what sites and resources do you recommend to your clients the most often?
Chris: Well, I have to be a bit self promotional as I direct clients and professional connections to my national radio show “The Social Marketing Academy” which is available on iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-social-marketing-academy/id395978834?mt=2
Also, I think that sites such as Social Media Examiner and Social Media Today have great resources for those looking to make the most out of their time marketing their business on social media.
