BusinessInterviews.com:  What inspired you to launch your business?

Steve Picarde:  I had just graduated from pharmacy school and started what I thought was going to be my career. I soon found I didn’t have a passion for working as a pharmacist. So I got a job with a consulting firm that served the food and drug industry. While I was helping them with business development, I kept running into this thing called the Predictive Index. And I thought, ‘What’s this?’ So I read up on it and was intrigued. I contacted the creator of PI, Arnold Daniels, to learn more and to ask about the possibility of licensing his system.

He wanted me to take the Predictive Index assessment. I did; he was happy with the results and agreed to work with me. Eventually he trained me in PI techniques and then let me start my own business using his name and methods. The rest, as they say, is history.

BusinessInterviews.com:  What issues does your core product help solve and how so?

Steve Picarde:  Our mission is to help companies best utilize the talent in their organizations. The key to successful hiring is matching a potential hire’s abilities with the requirements of the job and the organization’s culture. That’s where the Predictive Index and the Performance Requirement Option tool come in. We use these assessments to allow our clients to gauge the behaviors and motivations of job applicants and existing employees in order to build superior teams and train new leaders.

BusinessInterviews.com:  What is the most exciting thing on the horizon for you and your company?

Steve Picarde:  We’re thrilled to be rolling out accessPI 15.1 It’s easier to use and comes with a slew of killer new features like intuitive navigation, People and Positions pages, and a new pattern design. Plus, it’s completely mobile, which means that hiring managers who oversee multiple facilities can conduct assessments and retrieve data on the go. Our software design team has been working for a long time to offer our clients the ultimate user experience. We want to help them build their teams in the quickest, most efficient, most accurate way possible.

BusinessInterviews.com:  Where do you envision your company in five years, 10 years or even 20 years?

Steve Picarde: I hope that in 20 years it will be rolling along with my son at the helm! He’s worked with PI for 15 years and is ready to take over. Also, I’ve got grandchildren to play with and a long bucket list to check off.

Predictive Index, our parent company, was recently acquired by Phoenix Strategy Investments. So I think the next five-to-10 years will be a time of great change and growth. I’m excited about the possibilities, especially for developing and launching new products that will complement the Predictive Index. I want PI Midlantic to double in size, and we’re working to achieve that goal. After that, who knows? The only boundaries we face are the limits of imagination.

BusinessInterviews.com:  What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs and business owners? What do you wish someone had told you?

Steve Picarde:  When you find a line of work you’re passionate about, you’ve just got to stick with it. No matter how frustrating it can be at times. PI Midlantic isn’t just a job. It’s what I enjoy doing. That’s what kept me going during those early years when we didn’t have many clients. I worked nights and weekends as a pharmacist so that I could grow a customer base for PI Midlantic and learn how to best serve them. Thirty years later, the company is flourishing beyond my biggest dreams. I urge anyone who has that entrepreneurial spark to take a leap of faith. If I can do it, so can you.
