MyTime is really pushing the online-to-offline commerce movement forward, benefiting both local businesses and consumers.

Ethan Anderson

Founded by serial technology entrepreneur Ethan Anderson (winner of TechCrunch50 in 2009 for his previous startup, Redbeacon) and backed by Upfront Ventures and Khosla Ventures, MyTime is the most convenient way to book appointments online with over two million businesses nationwide.

Consumers can visit www.mytime.com or use the native iPhone or Android apps to schedule appointments for haircuts, massages, dog grooming and many more services with businesses around them. MyTime makes it easy to organize your life when it’s convenient for you.

BusinessInterviews.com: How did you come up with the concept behind MyTime? What pain point are you solving?

Ethan: At Redbeacon, we connected consumers with local service providers in the home services space, focusing primarily on services that needed quotes such as plumbing and roof repairs. However, I realized there were millions of businesses offering fixed price services – such as haircuts and oil changes – that were not widely discoverable or bookable online.

The pain point we’re solving is two-fold: We let consumers instantly check availability, book appointments and pay for services online. They no longer have to call around during business hours looking for availability. In the process of building this product, we realized that many small businesses don’t show their availability online today. So we built the online software tools that businesses can use to manage their bookings and communications with clients. MyTime is really pushing the online-to-offline commerce movement forward, which benefits local businesses and consumers alike.

BusinessInterviews.com: How does it work? Can you share some tips for a first time user?

Ethan: Through MyTime’s website and mobile apps, consumers can find and book appointments with practically any business in the US. We’ll confirm the appointment for you, and even remind you when it’s time for your next appointment. First time users can get up and running quickly by importing their favorite business from your mobile phone, Google, or Facebook. All of your favorite businesses will magically show up on your Favorites screen, and can be booked with just one-click.

BusinessInterviews.com: Congratulations on recently raising $9.25 million in Series B financing. How will this investment help take MyTime to the next level and help accelerate growth?

Ethan: In the past month, we launched MyTime Scheduler, which is simply the best online scheduling product for small businesses on the market today. From the palm of their hands, local businesses can easily manage their appointments, client records, and real-time chats with customers. We’ll use the Series B to roll out MyTime Scheduler more broadly, and to scale up our sales and operations team to support the influx of new businesses joining MyTime.

BusinessInterviews.com: Can you share why you visit Google Analytics each day and why you think it’s a key tool for a business of any size?

Ethan: Google Analytics is important for every business to understand what channels are driving their growth and ultimately their revenue. Additionally, I visit Google Analytics to understand how our users are using the product, and use that data to make decisions about the company and the product on a nearly daily basis.

BusinessInterviews.com: As a serial entrepreneur what’s the biggest lesson that you’ve learned so far?

Ethan: At its heart, being an entrepreneur, you never stop selling. You’re selling investors on the dream. You’re selling employers on the dream. You’re selling partnerships. You’re selling the media and the press. You’re selling customers. It’s like we’re always selling something and so if you don’t have that built into you innately, then you better have a co-founder who does.
