My name is Kim Dao, an Australian Blogger/Youtuber. I graduated from the University of Western Australia studying Japanese and Psychology. I am an ordinary girl who loves makeup, fashion and travelling!
I originally started by making a blog to keep as a memory of my first trip to Japan After travelling to Japan for the first time in 2011, I fell in love with the country and wanted to remember every part of my trip. I eventually got many readers interested in my Japan blog posts so I decided to make a Youtube Channel to share my experiences. I make videos about my travels, makeup, fashion and every day life videos. I have worked with numerous of brands in the past such as Shu Uemura, Schwarzkopf, Amore Pacific, Etude House, Liz Lisa as well as many other brands. I have also been featured on a number of TV shows in Japan on NHK and TBS channels as well as being featured on the West Australian newspaper.
BusinessInterviews.com: What inspired you to launch your business?
Kim Dao: It was only after several of my friends and family members repeatedly urged me to expand my efforts that I even considered turning my blog into an actual business. At first, The Kim Dao Blog was designed as a simple way of documenting and preserving my first trip to Japan, but after it started gaining more and more attention it made sense to expand the subject matter and explore different mediums. My business now includes a thriving YouTube channel along with a host of social media platforms that allow me to communicate with people all over the world.
BusinessInterviews.com: What’s the most exciting thing on the horizon for you/your Company?
Kim Dao: I’m excited that the business travels so well and has allowed me to live in Japan while traveling to far-off places that I would not have otherwise been able to visit. Since I focus so much on travel, makeup, and fashion, I’m looking into a number of new strategies for combining those interests in a way that is both entertaining and informative.
BusinessInterviews.com: Where do you envision your company in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?
Kim Dao: The company has grown so quickly since I first founded the blog in 2011, and I expect that our continued growth will allow us to explore new and unique opportunities in a variety of industries. Although I am currently based out of Japan, I do intend to eventually return to Australia but will continue to maintain a busy travel schedule that allows me to explore new ideas in fashion, makeup, and travel.
BusinessInterviews.com: What’s the biggest risk that you’ve ever taken and how did it turn out?
Kim Dao: The biggest risk I have ever taken has to be the decision to move to Japan. I studied Japan while attending the University of Western Australia and had visited the country before moving there, but it was still a very unfamiliar place. Moving to Japan required a significant investment from me, but it has clearly paid off many times over. I’ve been able to work with incredible brands and have been featured in Japanese media quite often, and I have really become accustomed to the culture. From a business standpoint, the unique perspective I’ve been able to adopt while living in Japan has been invaluable, and I think it is fair to credit my time in the country as greatly contributing to the creativity I’ve expressed in my writing and in my videos.
